Who We Are

Biopoetic Solutions is a design company that strives to use nature's inherently sustainable systems as inspiration for solving our most complex problems. How would nature solve a transportation problem? How can nature create all the energy it needs without generating waste? How would nature solve a food or water shortage? Here at Biopoetic Solutions, we do not see these issues as problems, but rather as opportunities to use human ingenuity with nature's wisdom to design truly sustainable projects. Our scientists and designers have over 20 years of combined experience with water, wastewater management, energy production, and waste stream recycling projects. Our unique approach allows us to solve multiple problems at once by combining seemingly separate projects into one closed-loop system. Our designs solve the problem while replenishing natural capital, leaving our world better than we found it.

How We Do It

Nature has had many millennia of research and development time. It uses a closed-loop approach to solving many of its infinite problems. Nature does not simply replace products for products to solve a pollution problem. It replaces systems for systems. Biopoetic Solutions believes that by harnessing nature and our imaginations, we can solve these issues one project at a time. We do this by using integration thinking, deep ecology principles, biomimicry concepts, and triple-bottom line business models. These proven methods have been successfully implemented in projects all over the world.

Recent Projects

Biopoetic Solutions partnered with 5 Kingdoms Development and Fortune Management in the design and construction of the first "Green" Subway Restaurant east of the Mississippi River. This LEED project has garnered a tremendous amount of attention including an Energy Patriot Award from Indiana Senator Richard Luger. Biopoetic Solutions designed and installed, with the help of neighboring school children, a large storm water management garden. This "rain" garden is a landscape feature that is able to handle the influx of rain from a 100-year storm along with providing excellent wildlife habitat and water purification mechanisms in addition to providing much needed relief to the aging combined sewer infrastructure that is present near the site. Biopoetic Solutions was able to complete the design with the given site contours and existing soils, greatly reducing project costs. 5 Kingdoms Development coordinated with the neighboring school in order to create an educational opportunity for them. We are honored and proud to have been a small part in this phenomenal project.
